Showing Simple Values using Value Tips
To display the value of a simple variable, move the mouse pointer on its name. After a second, a small window (called Illegal HTML tag removed : value tip) pops up showing the value of the variable pointed at. The window disappears as soon as you move the mouse pointer away from the variable. The value is also shown in the status line.
You can disable value tips via Edit => Preferences => General => Automatic display of variable values as popup tips.
